DCL were appointed to undertake the Commercial Management of the complete Mechanical installation for the refurbishment of the 82,000 sq ft listed headquarters of Daiwa Capital Markets. The Mechanical package for this prestigious project was circa £3.5m.
The building in question (housing the Japanese Investment bank) is located at 5 King William Street. The building’s stunning exterior and reception area are listed and were to be restored and given a more “contemporary feel”.
The main challenge came due to the nature of keeping the building live throughout the construction period. The phrase ‘Open heart surgery’ has been frequently used to describe the nature of the way in which the mechanical & Electrical Contractors had to work closely together with the strip out contractor in order to successfully replace the mechanical and electrical plant whilst the building was “kept awake”.
