This project replaced the existing district heating main and energy centre at the University of Sussex. The works too place over a two year period with new buried district heating mains being installed in parallel with the existing mains in 2006. During summer 2007, the energy centre (central boiler house) will be stripped out & replaced with 2 number new 6.7mW boilers and a 1000kWe CHP unit that commenced operation in January 2008.
This complex project additionally involved the replacement and refurbishment of fifty one local plant rooms during the shut down period during summer 2007.
The project had a number of significant engineering and commercial challenges and DCL were appointed by the contractor to undertake the commercial management of the project including mechanical, electrical, civil engineering and builders work elements and also manage some complex contractual issues associated with the phasing of the project and an extension of time.
